Aluminium 7050 is a high-strength alloy that mainly consists of about 90% aluminium, along with 5.7 to 6.7% zinc, 1.9 to 2.6% magnesium, and 2.0 to 2.6% copper. It also contains trace amounts of chromium, zirconium, and titanium, which help improve its toughness and grain structure. This alloy is known for its exceptional strength, resistance to stress-corrosion, and solid fatigue performance. Its typical mechanical properties include a density of around 2.83 g/cm³, a tensile strength ranging from 510 to 560 MPa, a yield strength between 430 and 470 MPa, and an elongation of about 9 to 11%, depending on the temper, which is often T7451 or T7651.
