Aluminium foils are usually made from alloys like 1050, 1100, or 8011, which contain about 99.0–99.7% pure aluminium, along with small amounts of elements such as iron, silicon, and manganese to enhance their strength and flexibility. These alloys can’t be heat-treated, but they do develop their mechanical properties through a process called cold rolling. They typically have tensile strengths ranging from 60 to 150 MPa, can stretch up to 12%, and have a melting point of around 650°C. With a density of 2.71 g/cm³ and impressive thermal and electrical conductivity, aluminium foils are not only highly formable but also resistant to corrosion and effective as light barriers.
